Say hello to the Tata Indigo eCS replacement, popularly known as the Kite sedan for now, the hatchback version was already spotted on its test run a little while ago. Now folks at AutoCarIndia & CarToq have managed to snap the compact sedan of the same. The Kite sedan and hatchback will be slotted below the upcoming Bolt and the already launched Zest cars.
The Kite twins are based on a refined Indica platform.
From the spy pictures, it’s evident that Tata Motors has designed the Kite sedan in a sportback style, very much like the GT variants from BMW. This new styling is expected to be the USP of the Kite sedan. Apart from styling, the sedan is expected to get a better ride and much better handling, improved interior design and quality and lots more equipment.
Based on the refined Indica platform, the Kite twins will make use of a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine, and an all-new 1.05-litre, three-cylinder diesel engine, which is a derivative of the company’s 1.4-litre DiCOR diesel engine. We’ll not be surprised, if Tata equips the Kite sedan with an AMT automatic gearbox, alongside the standard manual gearbox.
The Kite based compact sedan will be smaller than the Zest in length.
Prices for the Zest range start from Rs 4.64 lakh ex-Delhi, so expect the Kite sedan to be priced around the Rs 4 lakh mark. At that price point, the Kite based compact sedan will not have any direct rivals and perhaps even undercut most of the hatchbacks as well. Both the hatchback and compact sedan version of the Kite is speculated to be launched by end-2015 or early-2016.
