BA readers know Tata Motors is working on a new small car, codenamed Kite as on date and will be slotted between the Nano and Bolt. The spied vehicle is one of the first prototypes of the Kite hatchback and Tata may make extensive changes on the final production car. As per the trusted sources, the Kite is reported to be Tata’s rival to cars like the Maruti Celerio, Chevrolet Beat and Hyundai i10, and a launch should take place by end-2015.
Tata Kite (Spied) – ExteriorView
As of now, The Kite continues to be heavily camouflaged and so we still cannot make out any design features. However, the recent spy pictures cover the car from all angles and the overall profile signals a sharp resemblance with the Indica which is not a good sign. The front fascia and the shape of the bonnet make it look very similar to the Bolt, and it is likely to carry Tata’s smiling front fascia with what the company calls the ‘humanity line’. It is the line which runs below the front grill and connects the headlights.
The Kite like any other Tata is expected to offer maximum cabin room and might be feature rich as well, but sadly the car doesn’t seem like the tall-boy design as expected. In one of the spy pictures by CarToq, the dashboard is slightly revealed shows the newly designed AC vents inspired by the Xenon’s, space for a 2-DIN system below it and a new steering wheel. The company announced that its future range of cars will feature the Zest’s steering wheel because it’s of best quality, smaller in diameter and hence easier to use.

The Kite is believed to be based on the Indica’s platform, as developing a brand new platform will prove to be expensive. Specifications of the Kite are sketchy at the moment, but reports suggest that a 3-cylinder 800cc engine, 4-cylinder 1.2-litre turbo Revotron petrol engine along with a 1.05-litre 3-cylinder diesel engine could be on offer, and transmission options should include manual and automated manual transmissions (AMT). The company could use the Indica’s underpinnings but update the components like suspension, steering system, door panels and interiors.
Tata Motors plans to launch two completely new models each year for the next 5 years. This could very well be the car that Tata Motors will launch in 2015, after launching the Zest and Bolt this year.
