Spied – Volkswagen Vento and Polo CNG variant caught testing

Volkswagen Vento CNG variant

Last week, our good friend at Motorbash has snapped the test mules of CNG powered Volkswagen Vento and Polo variants. According to the same, the Vento test car was a base model and had two 65 kg weights in the back as well as some testing equipment, most likely to simulate real-world driving conditions.

The company is betting big on equipping its cars with CNG option given that the twin benefits of lower running costs and lower tail pipe emissions. The Vento spotted here is speculated to be a base model, with non-body colored door handles and rear view mirrors. On the other hand, the Polo test mule was a higher variant with alloy wheels, body coloured OVRMs and door handles.

Both the VW cars, Vento and Polo will come with a factory fitted CNG kit with a warranty, we speculate both the models to be priced at around Rs. 40,000-50,000 more than the regular petrol variant. What remains to be see, is if Volkswagen will give existing Vento & Polo petrol owners the chance to upgrade their petrol cars into CNG.

Volkswagen Polo CNG variant

Once the Polo CNG variant is launched, it will be the first CNG variant in its segment, as no other manufacturer currently has a CNG option in that range. And the Vento CNG would directly compete with the likes of Honda City CNG which is the latest addition to City’s lineup. Both the models will be launched soon probably in January-2013.
