Ssangyong Rexton II expected to hit our Indian shores very soon by early next year, now our friends at Motoroids have a snap picture of Ssangyong Rexton II being tested in India. Based on the decades old tried and trusted mechanicals for the last generation of Mercedes-Benz M-class, the car that we are to receive is the Rexton II (Y300). It was upgraded as recently as the year 2010 with a variable geometry turbo. This makes the car look as unusual as the original one.
It is powered by a 2.7-litre, five-cylinder turbo-diesel which is capable of producing power equivalent to 162bhp along with a 34.8Kgm torque via a Five-speed automatic gearbox. The Rexton is a well-suited for off-road drive, complete with decent ground clearance, permanent-all-wheel-drive, and traction control. It also has an independent suspension as it uses the body-on-frame chassis. The suspension also has double wishbones up front and a multi-link assembly at the rear.
Mahindra will bring the Rexton II in India after it launches the SsangYong Korando SUV. The two SUVs will be brought to the country as CKDs and will be assembled at Mahindra’s new plant at Chakan near Pune. It will compete with the likes of the Honda CRV, Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Mitsubishi Outlander.
