Late-2011, the new Jaguar XF sedan facelift silently slipped into the Indian markets with three engine options- 3.0-litre V6 diesel, 5.0-litre petrol and 5.0-litre supercharged petrol. Now folks at IndianCarBikes have spotted the spy pictures of the Jaguar XF sedan with heavy camouflage at Chikli, off Pune, the car spotted here is the same model as on-sale now but is speculated being tested with a 2.2-litre turbo diesel unit.
The company has already begun the CKD assembly of the 3-litre V6 XF at Chikli recently and now it is expected that the company will fit in the entry level 2.2-litre turbo diesel in the India-spec XF. The 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission gearbox, which will help it become cheaper and better in terms of fuel efficiency. This diesel engine is also found in Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Free Lander2.
The XF sedan with 2.2-litre engine is speculated to weigh about 65 kgs less than the 3.0-litre V6 diesel. And is believed to be priced around Rs. 40 lakh, which will give a tough competition to its German rivals like the Audi A6, the BMW 5-Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The sources close to us say, the mileage of the upcoming Jaguar XF 2.2 will be around 18.5kmpl, and if it happens, we are sure the car will have the competitive edge over most its rivals.
The Jaguar XF 2.2 is expected to be launched by December-2012 or January-2013.
