Last-month we reported that Mahindra’s first compact SUV (mini-Xylo) called ‘Quanto’ will be launched by late-September. Now the exact launch date has been officially released by the company on 20th September, 2012. The Quanto’s styling is similar to the current Xylo and the only feature that differentiates this car from its elder sibling is its compact size and spare wheel which attached to the tail gate.
On the inside, the Quanto retains the same seating layout of the first two rows and an identical dashboard. In fact the top-end Quanto would get nearly the same set of features as the more premium versions of the Xylo, thus continuing to reinforce the value card. We think, the five-seater would be the better bet and third row of seats would certainly bite into the luggage space.
The company will price the Quanto to take on the premium B-segment hatches and that could mean a base price that starts from Rs. 6 lakh and Rs. 7.5 lakh for the fully loaded top-end model. The price may seem a bit on the higher side but given the twin-turbocharged engine and all those features, which are unnoticed will make into the Quanto. It has the potential to be another winner from the house of Mahindra, although the marketplace would be the perfect judge of the final outcome.
Mahindra is playing the game safely for now, as there isn’t major rival for the Quanto in India at the moment. Besides, the Premier Rio is probably the only compact SUV that could face the tough competition.
