The German car manufacturer, Porsche another subsidiary of Volkswagen AG has officially confirmed the name of upcoming baby SUV as ‘Macan’, earlier referred by the name of ‘Cajun’. Recently revealed image of the futuristic Macan has created the sensation among the buyers.
Earlier Porsche Macan was spied undergoing winter testing wearing a crafty Audi Q5 body-shell. Now Teamspeed.com for the first time spotted a real test mule of upcoming baby Porsche SUV, with minimum camouflage. The final version of the Macan will have a much sportier look to it then the Audi Q5 it’s based on.
However, it is evident that Macan will share a similar platform as the Audi Q5 and all powertrains will be from Audi will start from a 2.0-liter four cylinder engine and go upto 3.0-liter V6 engine offering power of 240 hp and 290 hp. Besides the Porsche Macan, there is news of the Macan Turbo S which will possess a 3.0-liter twin turbo V6 engine offering 350 hp.
A Hybrid Porsche Macan is also on the cards which will drive power from a combination of 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine capable of generating 208bhp of power and an electric motor capable of pumping out 54bhp of power. This crossover is shapely believed to do 0 to 100km per hour in less than 7.5 seconds and will have top speed of 230 km per hour.
On the inside the car is expected to sport lesser space than the BMW X3 and Audi Q5 but Macan will bear close resemblance to the Porsche Cayenne. Initially, the Porsche Macan will be launched with four doors. But we are also hearing rumors that a little later on there could be a sportier looking two door version as well.
The Porsche Macan will make its global debut in October 2013 and its launch in the Indian car market will follow soon. On its arrival into dealer showrooms during 2013, Macan should compete with the likes of Audi Q5, Volkswagen Toureg, Range Rover Evoque, BMW X3 and the Mercedes Benz GLK.
