2012 Honda Civic sedan was launched in the US. The 2012 JDM (Japanese Domestic Model) Honda Civic will make its China debut very soon and the Indian model will look almost exactly the same. Although not many have liked the looks of the new Civic which seems to have toned down its sporty look to please the executives, we feel the new version will drive much better. Headed to India by the end of this year, the new Civic will help Honda take the fight to the Chevrolet Cruze, which has off late out sold the Japanese car by a long shot. The ASEAN market version of Civic was spied in China recently. The ASEAN market variant of 2012 Honda Civic has some minor changes compared to US model.

This apart, the 2012 Civic ASEAN model looks pretty much similar to that of the USDM (US Domestic Model) model with engine options of 1.8 and 2 litre petrol versions. We’ll be getting the 1.8 Litre engine which in all probability would be reworked for more torque and better drivability. Also, a diesel engine option is not on the cards and this remains a potential stumbling block for the 2012 Civic. The rear too gets a larger tail lamp cluster that extends onto the boot.

What remains to be seen in whether Honda India work on the handling of the 2012 Civic to make it sharper or whether the 2012 Civic will be biased more towards a plush ride to rival the likes of the Toyota Corolla and the Skoda Laura.

We’re thinking that the latter could happen as Honda, with the taller 2012 Civic clearly seems to be looking at producing a car that is more suited to executives who prefer comfort rather that the younger, sportier set. All said, the 2012 Honda Civic should arrive in India in the next few months.
