Skoda will be launching an automatic variant of their mid-size sedan, the Skoda Rapid TSI from next month onwards. The automaker has now started to accept bookings for the car across the country in preparation for its launch. As per reports, deliveries for the Rapid automatic are set to commence from 18 September.
Skoda are currently accepting a booking amount of Rs. 25,000 for the car. Other than flocking to Skoda showrooms to register the car, customers can also book the Rapid automatic from the automaker’s India website. Skoda had recently given the Rapid TSI a BS-VI upgrade and launched it with a manual gearbox a couple of months back.
Now, the automaker is readying the automatic version of the car which will eventually hit the showrooms by September. The Rapid automatic will feature the same engine as seen on the manual one. This is a 1.0 litre, three-cylinder TSI petrol making 108 BHP of power and 175 Nm of torque.
It will now be coming mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Skoda claims the Rapid automatic can deliver an overall fuel efficiency of 16.24 kmpl. While these are decent numbers, they fall short of the overall efficiency of the manual variant of the car, which Skoda claims that it makes 18.97 kmpl.
When it comes to the prices, the Skoda Rapid TSI is now being offered at Rs. 13.9 lakh (ex-showroom, India). But its automatic variant will likely command a premium in comparison to it, which may be around Rs. 1 lakh. When launched, the Rapid automatic will take on the Honda City, Hyundai Verna and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, all of which come with an automatic transmission.
