French car manufacturer Renault has launched their fifth car in India, the Scala. This offering is the company entry into C-segment in the Indian auto industry. Prices start at Rs 6.99 lakh for the base RxE petrol variant and go up to Rs 9.57 lakh for the top-spec diesel RxZ trim. The Scala will directly compete with the Nissan Sunny and Honda City.
Like the Renault Pulse, the Scala is also basically a mildly altered version of Nissan’s rather clever Sunny The front fascia is where the major transformation has taken place with Renault badge resting on the gaping mouth which incorporates the front grille and air dams give the car a more aggressive stance as compared to its Japanese sibling. From the side, the car is exactly the same as the Sunny except for the new alloys.
The rear too has been incorporated with minor changes, like the chrome strip connecting the tail lamps and the blacked out area in the fender. The interiors are exactly the same as the Sunny’s and the oval and rounded theme is carried over. You get a round cluster of buttons on the central console, round vents and a round steering boss, exception being the availability of leather seats on the diesel RXZ trim.
Under the skin, the two are basically the same. Engine options for the Scala are a 1.5-litre dCi diesel motor and 1.5-litre petrol unit. Like the Sunny, Renault too will be offering an automatic gearbox later on for the petrol variant. The Scala will be offered with Renault’s ‘Complete Care’ service package, which includes a 2+2 years/80,000km warranty and 24/7 Roadside Assistance.

“With the launch of the Scala, Renault India is now present across segments of the Indian car market with products which meet our customer expectations and aspirations. The Scala will further enhance Renault’s presence in the country.”
