In a move to better appeal to North American and Chinese customers, Porsche is developing a long-wheelbase version of its Panamera, to effectuate greater rear-seat legroom in the vehicle. The 115-inch Panamera wheelbase will be extended to 120 inches. The long-wheelbase S-class boasts 124 inches.
All of the added length will be used to incorporate a longer rear door, and a larger rear-door aperture. The extended Panamera is expected to go on sale in 2012; the same time as the face-lifted standard wheelbase model. Plans for a four-seat convertible have been pushed back until 2015.
“We’ve decided to wait until the second-generation model before adding alternative body styles,” a high-ranking Porsche official told AutoWeek. “We’re already flat-out meeting demand for a single body style as it is.”
