Next-gen Toyota Etios on the works, launch slated for late-2015

Next-Gen-2015-Toyota-Etios

Toyota Etios sedan

The Toyota Etios and Etios liva were two cars based on the same platform which were designed and made for the Indian market, and was a great success in India. Toyota sold many units of the hatchback and sedan in India and they are still among the best low-cost cars sold in India, today.

But, it isn’t the same story in Brazil. The Etios hatchback and sedan did not fare very well in Brazil, mainly because they were developed in India and for India and the Brazilians found the design to be a bit boring and the interiors to be of low quality. Toyota tried to rectify the boring interior by launching an update with faux carbon fibre inserts in the dashboard, but it didn’t work out very well. The Brazilians wanted something which was developed specifically for Brazil. This and the fact that the Etios’ chief competitors, the Hyundai HB 20 and the Chevrolet Onix are in the top 10 list of best sellers in brazil, whereas the Etios isn’t  even close has made Toyota re-think.

Now, Toyota is planning a completely upgraded Etios and Etios liva for Brazil and reports suggest that, the revamped cars might be launched in late-2015. The new Etios hatch and sedan are expected to have lots of changes and a host of new features too. The design too will undergo lot of changes and Toyota is planning to completely localise production with inputs from its Brazilian subsidiary. In the meanwhile, Toyota has lots in store for the Brazilian market, like the new Corolla sedan, the Vios sedan and the Yaris hatchback.
