Maruti Suzuki S-Cross – India to get 1.5-litre petrol engine

Maruti Suzuki may soon have its new vehicles the S-Cross and the Ciaz sedan adopt its new Suzuki M15 1.5-litre petrol engine. Earlier reports suggested that the company was working on a 1.0-litre Boosterjet petrol engine for the S-Cross crossover.

Continuous diesel price hikes, narrowing price gap between petrol and diesel fuels and the latest National Green Tribunal ban on diesel-powered cars is mulling demand for petrol-powered cars in the Indian market. The S-Cross is now on-sale in two diesel engine options – a 1.3-litre DDiS200 and a 1.6-litre DDiS320, while the Vitara Brezza too is solely available in the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel motor.

As per reports, the 1.5-litre 4 cyl petrol engine (M15) will initially be offered in the S-Cross and is also likely to replace the smaller 1.4-litre K14 unit found in Ciaz sedan. Offered in the previous-gen Suzuki Swift (international-spec), the 1.5-litre engine produces 100 BHP and 133 Nm of torque. It will be paired to a manual gearbox as standard, while a 4-speed automatic transmission might be offered as an option.

At the moment, its unclear when Maruti Suzuki will introduce the new petrol S-Cross.
