The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross premium crossover made a surprise appearance at the IIFA Awards (International Indian Film Academy Awards) Ceremony on June 7, 2015 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, ahead of its official Indian launch.
Recently launched the S-Cross in India is available in 4 trim variants with the 1.3-litre engine and 3 variants with the 1.6-litre engine with the price ranging from Rs. 8.34 to Rs. 13.74 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). At this price point, the S-Cross will compete against the newly launched Hyundai Creta, along with Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Tata Safari Storme, Mahindra Scorpio and even the Mahindra XUV500.
This premium crossover was first revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March-2013. Known as the SX4 in Australia and SX4 S-Cross in Europe, the S-Cross is the first diesel-only Maruti to be launched in the Indian market and is the first premium crossover of the country. It is only retailed through the company’s exclusive showrooms known as Nexa, especially established for S-Cross.
Equipment list on top-end variant includes automatic projector headlamps with xenons, LED daytime running lamps, 18-inch Smartplay touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and reverse parking camera functions, leather upholstery, electronically adjustable ORVMs, automatic climate control, rear center armrest, parcel tray, keyless entry with push start/stop button, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, cruise control, rain sensing wipers, dual airbags, all four disc brakes, ABS and 16-inch alloy wheels.
Under the bonnet there is a choice of a 1.3-litre and a 1.6-litre diesel engine. The 1.3-litre is called the DDiS 200 and it produces 90bhp of power and 200Nm of torque; it is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The other option is a 1.6-litre termed as the DDiS 320, which produces 120bhp of power and 320Nm of torque; mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The ARAI figures stand at 23.65 kmpl for the DDiS 200 and 22.70 kmpl for the DDiS 320 respectively.
