Maruti Suzuki India has introduced its revised Alto K10 in India – the new car replaces the current model in the line-up, and is available in both petrol and CNG versions. Priced at Rs 3.06 lakh for the entry-level model, ranging upto Rs 3.80 lakh for the top-spec model, the new Alto K10 gets styling as well as mechanical updates in this new avatar. At Rs 3.80 lakh, the Alto K10 is the lowest priced automatic hatchback available in Indian car market (all prices mentioned are of ex-showroom, New Delhi).
The new Alto K10 is based on the Alto 800 that was launched in 2012. But compared to the Alto 800, the new Alto K10 gets different headlamps, grille and bumpers. The rear portion receives new tail lights, new bumper followed by chrome strip at the beneath of bootlid. The engine bay of the car is now shorter, the width and height of the car has increased by 1.5cm. The car also gets a set of new wheel caps.
On the inside, the new Alto K10 gets two-tone theme with a modern-looking, redesigned dashboard, a new instrument cluster and a new three-spoke steering wheel with silver inserts, silver garnished door trim, AC louvres and gear shift bezel and audio system with piano black finish.
The range-topping VXi (O) variant comes with features such as driver airbag, body coloured door handles and wing mirrors, fog lamps, keyless entry audio system with CD and USB compatibility and central locking. Other features include gear shift indicator, key off reminder, headlamp warning buzzer, a digital clock and front power windows.
Under the hood lies the 998 cc, revolutionary K-Series engine which produces 68 PS (67.04 bhp) and 90 Nm of torque in the petrol spec, and 59 PS (58.16 bhp) and 78 Nm of torque when run on CNG. The petrol variant gets a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automated manual transmission and delivers 24.07 kmpl while the CNG which is available only with a manual gearbox delivers 32.26 km/kg.
There are six variants on call, these being LX, LXi, VXi, VXi(O), VXi with Auto gear shift and LXi CNG, with prices starting from Rs 3.06 lakh which is for the baseline model. The new Alto K10 is available in six colours – Tango Orange (exclusive colour for the new K10), Granite Grey, Cerulean Blue, Fire Brick Red, Silky Silver and Superior White.
As one would expect, Maruti has priced the Alto K10 quite competitively and the AMT variant gives it an USP over its competitors. Speaking of competition, the new Alto K10 competes with the Hyundai Eon and the Datsun GO.
