The icon is back, they say. After much gossips and private previews the next-generation BMW 7-Series luxury premium sedan is launched in India. Pricing starts from Rs. 1.1 Crores in ex-showroom, Delhi.
The new 7-Series sedan looks much sleeker and even the interiors look much more premium than the outgoing model. It was first displayed at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. For India, the sedan is assembled at the BMW’s manufacturing plant in Chennai and is offered in two diesel variants which are locally produced. However, the two petrol variants will be directly imported as CBUs (Completely-Built-Units).
Munich’s limo and flagship saloon, now in its sixth generation gets many new features seen for the first time on a BMW vehicle like the iDrive 5.0 with Hand Gesture Control, autonomous parking, sky lounge and carbon fibre body structure. Other noteworthy features include 4-zone climate controls, heated seats with arm rests, and the big shots at the back can enjoy 8 massage programmes including the Vitality programme, which allows one to engage in active physical exercise for recuperation purposes.
We finally come to the engine-specs, where it offers the 4.4-liter TwinPower turbo V8 petrol developing 450 hp and 650 Nm of torque, or a 3.0-liter TwinPower turbo inline-6 diesel unit that pushes out 265 hp and 620 Nm of peak torque for the Indian market. Both engines are coupled with an 8-speed automatic gearbox, driving the rear wheels.
