The SUV market has been dominated by crossovers for the past couple of years, both in India and on a global level. are several large, traditional SUVs which are due for upgrades in the year to come, as well as refinements on some favourite crossovers. The following are five redesigns to watch out for in 2014.
Subaru Forester –
Although the Subaru Forester remains a popular SUV worldwide, it hasn’t been updated since 2008. Thus, anticipation has been building for the new platform and redesign in the year to come. It’s expected that the newer model will come in a turbocharged version for greater efficiency and power. The Forester is one of the most capable crossover SUVs on the market, with its ability to handle off-roading far more efficiently than many of its peers. It’s expected that the newer version will take the Forester even further in this direction, to help distinguish it from the crowded crossover market.
Ssangyong Rexton –
The Mahindra SsangyongRexton has become a popular traditional-styled SUV in India, and Ssangyong cars at Carsales Australia have also become best sellers. The 2013 Rexton is an efficient workhorse with four-wheel drive and high ground clearance. It provides excellent traction control and an engine provided by Mercedes, offering 163 bhp and a smooth ride. For 2014, the Rexton will be updated with more luxurious cabin features and gadgets to bring it into the future and make it a greater competitor in the SUV market.
Nissan XTerra –
The revamped XTerra will remain on a truck chassis, for greater off-roading capabilities and all the power that one would expect from a high quality SUV. Many automakers are making their SUVs lighter in the hopes of improving fuel efficiency, but Nissan hopes to solve this problem with other tools like turbocharged engines and direct-injection. Insiders also anticipate the chance of Nissan offering a diesel version of the XTerra for 2014, although this has yet to be confirmed.
Kia Sorento –
The sleek Kia Sorento has been given an even slicker update for 2014. This crossover vehicle comes with a new V-6 engine, telematics, infotainment, and interior for a more luxurious look and feel. The new base engine is a direct-injection 2.4 litre four cylinder model, for greater power and efficiency. This should make the Sorento even more competent than before, although Kia cars at carsales.com.au are already well known for their reliability. The interior furnishings have been given a major upgrade, with blind-spot detection, an eight-inch touch screen, and soft touch materials.
Jeep Grand Cherokee –
There’s a push among consumers and manufacturers alike to offer a wider selection of diesel SUVs. One of the original SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee, is now going to be available in a diesel version. This is exciting news for fans of this brand, who can benefit from the longer range and improved fuel economy that a diesel engine provides. As SUV manufacturers strive to produce increasingly economical vehicles, the new Grand Cherokee could help lead the way and compete with the EcoBoost engines that Ford is doing so well with.
