Pranab Mukherjee was sworn in as the 13th President of India today. It’s not just a change of address for incumbent President Pranab Mukherjee. For the first time in his five decade political career, Pranab will give up the Ambassador car manufactured in Uttarpara, West Bengal, and step into the Mercedes Benz S600 (W221) Pullman Guard crafted in Stuttgart, Germany.
The custom-built presidential limousine has a good stretched out wheelbase and has been well-equipped with ample of luxury and safety features. Due to the safety reasons, we haven’t been able to get all the safety features installed and fitted into the car, but the car does come with some heavy duty security features. Some of the major ones comprise of AK47 shells, Grenades, full bullet proof body, run flat tyres, 90 litres of fuel tank and fresh air system that pumps in oxygen in case emergency. Moreover, the Mercedes Benz S600L Pullman Limousine comes with some serious armoring, which makes the limousine heavier than a regular one.
Talking about the luxury features of the Mercedes Benz S600L Pullman Limousine, the car has ample of space inside. The passenger cabin has 2+2 seats facing each other that will allow the President to hold face-to-face meetings. A refrigerator is integrated between the rear seats so everyone can sip something cool while discussing a burning issue.
According to Zigwheels, the vehicle owes its spacious interior to its 4315mm wheelbase, which is 115 cm longer than that of the long version of the special-protection S-Class. The air conditioning system, airbags, electrically assisted power steering etc remains to be standard. There is a panic button which when once triggered shuts all doors and windows from inside. All this doesn’t come cheap. Its current cost is a whopping Rs 12 crore, a far cry from the white Amby that costs less than Rs 10 lakh.
As far as the engine is concerned, Mercedes Benz S600L Pullman Limousine sports the 5.5 litre of twin turbo petrol engine that produces 515BHP of maximum power. While we are on the subject, this car was first custom-made for Mrs. Pratibha Patil, but instead she continued with the Mercedes Benz S-Class that she inherited from Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam.
