Following the first showcase of the XA Alpha SUV in 2012, Maruti Suzuki was expected to launch the SUV by 2013. But as we enter into the second of the year 2013 there are still no signs of the launch. But so far, the only thing known is that the vehicle almost ready to get on to the production line and be ready for the ARAI tests. If all works out to be fine Maruti may start production of its first ever SUV in December with the launch scheduled for the 2014 Auto Expo.
The XA Alpha will be powered by a 1.4-litre petrol engine and a 1.3-litre diesel engine both the variants will have the same 5-speed manual transmission. The interiors are expected to be much like the Ertiga, with some more advanced features like climate control with some flavours from the Swift DZire for the dashboard and other interior features.
It is very important for Maruti to launch the SUV at earliest possible specially when the other SUV’s like the Renault Duster and the Ford EcoSport have been greeted with a huge response. This overwhelming response has not just created a competition among the SUV’s but has also resulted in the shift of the buyers taste, which has affected the sales of cars like Maruti’s Swift and DZire sales.
