Maruti Suzuki wrote-off unsold BS4 inventory worth Rs. 125 Crore, according to a media report.
Post 1 April 2020 the selling of BS4 vehicles was banned. But both the carmaker and his dealerships have been left with unsold stock. While the Supreme Court allowed 10 percent of the BS4 inventory to be sold after April 1 following a manufacturers and dealers petition, sales were affected by the extension of the Covid-19 lockdown.
Maruti Suzuki was one of the first carmakers to convert to BS6-compliant models. In Q4 FY2019 also the carmaker offered attractive discounts. Despite this, before the new emission norms came into effect the dealers were left with unsold BS4 stock.
