It’s finally out! Maruti Suzuki today officially launched the eagerly-awaited Ciaz sedan in India starting at Rs 6.99 lakh for the petrol model and Rs 8.04 lakh for the diesel (ex-showroom, Delhi). Launched as a replacement for the not-so-successful SX4, the Ciaz is Maruti’s re-entry into C-Segment to grab more market share, and compete against the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Ford Fiesta, VW Vento and Skoda Rapid.
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz – FrontView
First showcased as a concept at the Indian Auto Expo earlier this year, the Ciaz has already received 10,000 confirmed bookings as of today. The bookings for the new sedan commenced last-month with 3,000 bookings in just three days of opening and 10,000 to 12,000 enquiries. The Ciaz comes in four variants – Vxi, Vxi+, Zxi and Zxi+ in both petrol and diesel. But the petrol gets the additional 2 automatic variants – Vxi+ and Zxi.
Maruti’s fresh attempt at the midsizer segment is quite the looker and is one of the most upmarket offerings from Maruti yet. Praised as the most feature rich car in its category, Maruti Ciaz Z (O) comes in with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, engine Start/Stop button, leather upholstery, leather wrapped steering wheel, 16-inch alloy wheels, rear parking sensors with camera and 7” touchscreen SmartPlay infotainment system. Projector headlamps, electrically adjustable ORVM, window blinds, rear AC vents, audio system with USB and AUX-In system, front and rear arm rests and keyless entry are standard across the range.
The Ciaz is available in a total of 7 exterior color options, namely – Snow white, Dignity Brown, Sangria Red, Silky Silver, Glistening Grey, Midnight Black and Clear Beige.
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz – RearViewCarrying the same engine options as the carmaker’s Ertiga MPV, the Ciaz petrol variants are powered by the 1.4-litre K-Series engine that churns-out 92.45 PS and 130 Nm of torque, while the diesel variants comes packed with the familiar 1.3-litre DDiS (Fiat MultiJet), rated at 90PS and 200Nm of max. torque, ditching the earlier 1.6-litre motor of SX4. The petrol engine is coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed automatic while the diesel gets a 5-speed manual gearbox only.
The petrol Ciaz has an ARAI certified mileage of 20.73 kmpl for the manual variant and 19.12 kmpl for the automatic variant, whereas the diesel variants delivers the segment-best 26.21 kmpl. The country’s leading passenger car manufacturer will hope that the Ciaz does for them what the Baleno and SX4 couldn’t 🙂 !
