The Maruti Celerio diesel is set to launch on the 3rd of June 2015. I will keep you guys updated once the car makes the official launch.
The major highlight of the Celerio diesel is the debut of Suzuki’s first diesel engine, a two-cylinder unit displacing 793 cc believed to churn-out 47 BHP at 3,500 rpm and 125 Nm of max torque at 2,000 rpm, furthermore, the car will reportedly deliver an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 27.62 kmpl. The company claims that this is the lightest engine available in the country today, weighing just 89 kg.
Like its petrol sibling, the Celerio diesel will come in 4 variants – LDi, VDi, ZDi and ZDi (O) with no alterations to the design, save for the DDiS badge! The diesel engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and AMT is also expected to come any time soon. As far as safety is concerned, only the top-end model will get ABS, EBD and dual front airbags.
Once launched, the Celerio diesel will directly compete with the likes of Hyundai Grand i10, Chevrolet Beat and Tata’s upcoming Kite, but the pricing of car is likely to be its USP. The Celerio diesel is expected to be priced Rs. 80,000 over the corresponding petrol variant.
