Indian Auto-Major, Mahindra & Mahindra is planning on launch a petrol-powered variant of its flagship model, the XUV500. Don’t get wowed by hearing the news of a petrol XUV. Its for the export markets and not for us. M&M is already exporting Petrol Scorpio to various markets.
Although a diesel SUV may sound like a dumb idea for us, its vital for making the XUV successful in other parts of the world, where the prices of diesel and petrol are contrary to that of our country. No information regarding the motor is out though. But, as we hear from current reports, it may be a 2.2-litre turbocharged petrol motor churning out power figures close to 140bhp and torque of about 300Nm.
Dr. Pawan Goenka, President of M&M told that the petrol engined XUV500 is exclusive for export market but it could be made available in India if at all the need arises. But, we don’t expect such a need arising in the near future and as always, we will keep you posted on the same.
