As already read by our dear readers in our previous post in the month of January 2014, Mahindra’s research and development department, Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) had already started developing 4 new platforms for the Indian market which included Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs), Small & Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) and Utility Vehicles (UVs). After the recent launch of the face lifted Scorpio, now Mahindra is planning to introduce 3 vehicles in the compact SUV segments over next 2 years in the Indian market.
These 3 new compact SUVs will be codenamed as S101, U215 and U301. In order to maintain its position in the utility vehicle market and also to increase its annual sales, Mahindra plans to introduce new models in this segment in order to compete the likes of Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and Ford EcoSport. The entire 3 new mini SUVs will be less than 4-meters in length in order to be eligible for excise duty benefits.
The S101 is expected to create new price point for Mahindra, U215 will be the face lifted Quanto and U301 is likely to be equipped with off-roading features. Coming to the market share, Mahindra has already observed a total share of 42% for the fiscal ended on March 2014 which means already a drop of 13% from the market share standings two years earlier.
Stay tuned at BharathAutos to know whether these 3 new upcoming compact SUVs and the recently launched face lifted Scorpio will have an effect on the reducing Mahindra’s market share.
