Mahindra & Mahindra has launched the automatic variant of its flagship SUV the new XUV500 in three trims – W8 FWD at Rs 15.53 lakh, W10 FWD at Rs 16.36 lakh and W10 AWD at Rs 17.36 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi), approximately Rs 1.36 lakh more than the equivalent manual trim.
As said above the automatic variant will be available on the W8 (Front-Wheel Drive), W10 (Front-Wheel Drive) or W10 (All-Wheel Drive). Powering the XUV AT is the same 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel engine as the manual transmission version. This engine develops same output of 140 bhp and 330 Nm, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The ARAI certified mileage of the XUV500 automatic is 13.85 kmpl.
The XUV500 automatic gets a conventional automatic gearbox with a torque converter which also offers manual ‘Tiptronic’ mode to the drivers. The gearbox comes equipped with features such as hill start and crawl function which accelerates the car up to 10 kmph. Further, since the gears slot in a gated fashion, there is no button on the gearbox which one needs to press to switch modes. Just press the brake pedal & move the stick.
The facelifted XUV500 launched in May this-year comes equipped with push start button, electric sunroof, 7-inch touch-screen infotainment system, 6-way power seats driver seat, logo puddle lamps, reverse camera with assist. The facelifted version featured cosmetic makeover inside-out, whereas mechanically it remained unaltered.
Design-wise, the XUV500 AT carries the same look as present in regular XUV500, except the automatic badge placed on the rear door. The launch comes after the strong response since for the Hyundai Creta 1.6 diesel automatic, ever since the launch. More importantly, the automatic variant will open-up a whole new audience base for the already popular crossover in international markets significantly.
