The Mahindra TUV range could grow to include a stretch version – offer a full-fledged front facing third row with seating for two (7-seater).
Test mules on a long-wheelbase version of its compact SUV offering – the TUV300 are already spotted testing under heavy camouflage. An unconfirmed report suggests that this upcoming stretched TUV will be named as the TUV500, and will also come with a 1.99-litre engine, which are currently used in the Scorpio and XUV500 in the NCR.
Visually, the TUV500 will retain the boxy styling of the TUV300 on the front as well as on the side, however, the rear end will be different. The bigger TUV’s rear screen will feature a slight rake as compared to the upright one on the TUV300. The TUV500 will retain the tail gate mounted spare wheel, but will get a different set of tail lamps.
The TUV500 will target Maruti Ertiga, which is fetching good sales in entry-level 7-seater segment. Reports suggest that this upcoming model is expected to be launched as a replacement for the ageing Xylo MPV. Although there is no fix date of launch revealed yet. Sources close to us hint that Mahindra is scheduled to the long-wheelbase TUV, after the launch of XUV500 Intelli Hybrid.
