Mahindra KUV100 initial specs revealed: mFalcon engine debuts

Mahindra has recently announced the details of its upcoming KUV100. Alongside the company also introduced an all new range of mFalcon petrol and diesel engines, with this compact SUV.

The KUV100 is scheduled to launch on January 15, 2016. However, the bookings for this compact SUV has already commenced from December 19, 2015. A total of 7 variants and 7 colours are on offer. The variants are K2, K2+, K4, K4+, K6, K6+ and K8 where all the plus variants will have airbags and ABS as standard. The seven colours options are – Fiery Orange, Flamboyant Red, Aquamarine, Designer Grey, Dazzling Silver, Midnight Black and Pearl White.

The KUV100 compact SUV is powered by a new range of engines called mFalcon. As of now, it consists of a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol unit (G80) and a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged diesel powerplant (D75). Mahindra has invested Rs. 500 crore in the development of the mFalcon engine series. The mFALCON engine family will spawn six engines in this family running on both petrol and diesel mills in the range of 1.2-litre, 1.5-litre and 1.6-litres in the near future.

The mFALCON G80 1.2-litre petrol engine develops 82 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and 114 Nm of torque @ 3,500 rpm while the 1.2-litre mFALCON D75 diesel mill makes 77 BHP @ 3,750 rpm and 190 Nm of torque @ 1,750-2,250 rpm and both engines comply with BS-IV emission norms. For now, only 5-speed manual-transmission developed by Aisin will be on offer; while AMT will be launched at a later stage.

The KUV100 is a crossover-styled sub-4 metre vehicle based on an all-new monocoque platform. Design-wise, at the front it has a lengthy sleek grille with a honeycomb mesh pattern and Scorpio-like claws sweptback headlamp clusters, and a bumper with a silver skid plate and tall fog lamps. It has a sloping roof-line downwards towards the rear, the B-Pillars are blackened and the wheel arches are more prominent. It gets Beat-like rear door handles and a set of side cladding to enhance the macho appeal.

There is no word on the pricing of the KUV100 but it is likely to be priced in the range of Rs 4-6 lakh for petrol, while diesel can get a price tag in the range of Rs 4.6 – 7.5 lakh.
