Volkswagen India all-set to launch new Beetle at 2012 Auto Expo

German car manufacturer Volkswagen is all set to launch their iconic car Beetle in India at 2012 Auto Expo. As per the official press release, there will be a showcasing of new model of VW Beetle of 21st Century, however, there is no official launch date announced for it as of now. Volkswagen sells Beetle in India and brings it via CBU which attracts heavy taxes and a duty which makes it cost over Rs. 25 lakh in India. The new Beetle is likely to make its way to Indian roads in the calendar year 2012.

The 2012 Beetle offers as many as three engine options – the 2.5L petrol five cylinder, the 2.0L TDI® Clean Diesel and the 2.0L TSI® turbocharged petrol engine. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual or optional 6-speed automatic on 2.5L models.

India will get the 2.0L TDI® Clean Diesel with Volkswagen’s acclaimed DSG® 6-speed dual-clutch transmission. The 2012 Beetle 2.0L TDI Clean Diesel is the most fuel-efficient Beetle ever. The quiet, four cylinder 2.0L TDI Clean Diesel engine produces 140 hp and 236 lb.-ft (347 Nm) of torque.
