Mahindra’s research and development department, Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) is currently developing 4 new platforms for the Indian market which includes Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs), Small & Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) and Utility Vehicles (UVs). All the decent selling vehicles XUV5OO, Verito and Quanto from Mahindra were all developed at the Mahindra Research Valley.
As per the reports, these vehicles built on the new platform would be ready by 2015. After which it is expected to be launched by early 2016. In order to meet the current market demands, Mahindra has already started working on these new platforms. Mahindra has planned to develop vehicles below 3.5 tons at the MRV whereas the vehicle weighing above 3.5 tons would continue to be developed at the Pune research centre.
Mahindra being the leaders of Utility vehicle segment (UVs) is developing new products in the sub-segments of the existing vehicles based on the new platform. It is also developing a light commercial vehicle in order to compete the likes of LCV’s from Tata Motors. Along with this, Mahindra also intends to launch new products in the farm equipment sector along with the all-new upcoming Scorpio and the sub 4-metre SUV.
