Mahindra and Mahindra have launched their much awaited premium SUV, the Alturas G4 to the Indian market. It has been launched at a price of Rs. 26.95 lakh for the 2WD variant and Rs. 29.95 lakh for the 4WD variant. The Alturas G4 is essentially a re-badged version of the SsangYong Rexton G4 sold in various markets abroad.
It will come here via the CKD route and will be assembled in Mahindra’s Chakan facility in Pune. The Alturas G4 will be Mahindra’s flagship SUV and also the most premium offering from the automaker. Mahindra have retuned the suspension of the Rexton G4 to make it more suitable for Indian conditions.
The Alturas G4 comes packed with a host of features. These include a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, leather upholstery, 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, electric tail-gate, rain-sensing wipers and a sunroof. As far as safety is concerned, the Alturas G4 comes packed with 9 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, cruise control, hill-climb assist and so on.
Engine-wise, the Alturas G4 is powered by a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder, petrol engine. This engine can produce 181 BHP of power and 420 Nm of torque. It comes mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission sourced from Mercedes-Benz.
Sadly, the 2WD variant of the Alturas G4 will get dual airbags and miss out on features like a sunroof, electric tail-gate and rain-sensing wipers. The Alturas G4 will rival the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Isuzu MU-X and the Honda CR-V. Mahindra will hope that the customers will warm up to the Alturas G4 and thus, accept it with open arms.
