It’s no secret that Mahindra and Mahindra will be launching a premium SUV to the Indian market soon. The homegrown automaker has been working on it for quite some time now. As per recent reports, Mahindra’s flagship SUV was set for launch on 19 November, now the company has postponed the event to 24 November, 2018.
It will be christened the ‘Alturas G4’ and is based on the SsangYong Rexton G4 sold in markets abroad. But, it will feature some minor changes in design and suspension compared to the SsangYong. The Alturas G4 will come with a rugged body-on-frame construction with its focus on stability.
Mahindra will give the Alturas G4 a host of features to make it more attractive. These include an 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automated tailgate, leather seat upholstery, sunroof and ventilated seats with memory function to name a few. On the safety front, the Alturas G4 will get 9 airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, hill start assist and ESP.
Engine-wise, the Alturas G4 will come powered by a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder, diesel motor. This motor is capable of delivering 178 BHP of power and 450 Nm of torque. It will be coming mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission sourced from Mercedes-Benz that will send power to all-four-wheels.
Mahindra will heavily localise the Alturas G4 and will be built at the company’s manufacturing facility at Chakan in Maharashtra. Positioned in the high-end SUV segment, the Alturas G4 will compete with the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Isuzu MU-X and the Honda CR-V. Pre-bookings for the Alturas G4 has already commenced officially at Mahindra Dealerships across India from November 05, 2018.
