The Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM has obtained decent sales in the Indian market for all range of motorcycles launched till date. KTM made a public presence in early 2012 in India with the launch of KTM Duke 200. KTM’s highly anticipated super sport motorcycles RC 200 and RC 390 is also a hit which has in fact attracted many Indian consumers toward it. As per the reports obtained, KTM is likely to introduce slipper clutch in its RC Series in 2015.
The slipper clutch could be introduced this-year on the RC 200 and 390.
However if Slipper Clutch is introduced then KTM might limit this feature only to higher end series of RC motor cycles i,e only to RC 390 as we have already seen ABS being available only in RC 390 and not in RC200 considering cost in mind. Slipper Clutch (also known as a slider clutch or back-torque limiter) is a specialized clutch developed for performance oriented motorcycles to avoid serious effects of engine braking when riders decelerate as they enter corners. It ensures that the rear tyre does not lock during downshifts that could cause the wheel to lose traction by allowing the clutch to slip until the engine speed meets the speed of the bike.
Recently Kawasaki has also announced that all new models delivered starting this year would feature a slipper clutch and ABS as standard equipment. In order to cope up with the standard features provided by other manufacturers, KTM might also plan to introduce the slipper clutch which is actually required for the performance bikes in India.
