General Motors is now planning to launch sub-4 meter compact Sedan based on the Chevrolet Beat’s M300 platform in 2016. The upcoming compact Sedan would be built on the same Gamma II platform and will also share parts with the companies upcoming next-gen Beat.
Chevrolet MCM compact sedan will be based on the Beat-platform.
As the sub-4 meter segment is the fastest growing auto sector in the Indian market with annual volumes of around 3.5 lakh units, General Motors has also planned to launch a new compact Sedan in order to increase the sales as well as compete the likes of other giants in the same segment such as Tata Zest, Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze and upcoming Ford Figo sedan. The company has recently started exporting the Beat to Chile and is reportedly studying the feasibility of making India an export base for African and Latin American countries.
General Motors best selling hatchback Beat has obtained decent sales in the Indian market due to which company also believes that the upcoming compact Sedan based on Beat will also achieve them the decent sales figures which currently the company is lagging in the Sedan segment.
As General Motors is currently working on AMBER platform and with plans to launch the first car on this platform in 2017, we can expect the next-gen Beat and the compact Sedan one year prior to it i,e somewhere in 2016. Details regarding the technical specifications of the upcoming compact Sedan are not yet available. However considering that it would be based on the Beat’s platform, the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.0-litre diesel engines are expected to be the available engine options.
