Jeep Grand Compass 7-seater SUV spotted road-testing in India

Jeep have had a bit of a stop start journey in India during the past couple of years. While most of their models, particularly the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee series catering to the higher ends of the market, Jeep have tried their hand in the active ends of the market. The car which did represented them was the Compass which was launched here in 2017.

The Compass had got off to a promising start owing to the new business model that Jeep had brought here. But of late, the popular Jeep lost a bit of its shine and is now out of the radar of most of them looking for a mid-size SUV. The main reason was the rapid increase in prices of the Compass, which has called for an immediate action to be taken by Jeep.

Now, Jeep is readying a seven seater version of the Compass, likely to be called the Jeep Grand Compass. Codenamed the ‘Low D 3-row’, the vehicle will be based on the Compass facelift which will be coming here next year as well. Recently, a test mule of the car was covered, with the images coming out soon.

This is the first time that the model has been spotted on Indian roads, with the other instance coming in Brazil earlier this year. From the images, we can notice the large wheelbase of the Jeep Grand Compass along with bigger wheel arches and new alloy wheels. It will be styled similar to the Compass facelift and is expected to feature a large third row window.

The upcoming Low D 3-row could be more or less the same as the Compass facelift on the interior as well. Coming to its engine, the Jeep Grand Compass will be employing the same 2.0 litre Multijet II diesel motor as seen on its five seater sibling. This motor can make 170 BHP of power in addition to 350 Nm of torque.

When launched, it is expected to be priced at around Rs.25 lakh. This could make it a worthy competitor to the likes of the MG Hector Plus, Volkswagen T-Roc, Skoda Karoq, Hyundai Tucson and the next generation Mahindra XUV500. With the Jeep Grand Compass, Jeep will be hoping to turn the clock and remind us of how well the Compass was selling a couple of years back.
