Jeep Compass: 1000 bookings received in 3 days, launch in few weeks

Before the launch of most affordable SUV from Jeep in India, the Compass, the American automaker has received 1000 bookings, since the order books were opened in just 3 days.

Reported to be on-sale in a few weeks time, probably in August at very competitive price of under Rs. 20 lakh, thanks to 65% localisation (components). The Compass will be Jeep’s 3rd product in India as the car will be locally assembled here in Fiat’s Ranjangaon plant in Pune, it will be the brand’s first mass-market offering.

The equipment list and variants have been leaked online with the car set to be launched in 5 trims namely Sport, Longitude, Longitude (O), Limited and Limited(0). The Longitude and a Longitude(0) are set to be launched only with the diesel engine, while the rest of the trims will be available in both petrol and diesel.

All the variants will have features like the ABS, EBD, Dual front air bags and jeeps iconic Selecterrain 4WD system to name a few. Touch screen infotainment system will be standard on all trims, with the sport variant having a 5-inch system while the rest will be sport sport a 7-inch system. The longitude (0) will feature some additional goodies like HID headlamps and the contrast black-roof, which are exclusive for this trim only.

The new Compass will have 2 engine options, a 1.4-litre Multi air Turbo petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel engine of 172 bhp and 350 Nm respectively. Prices are expected to start from around 18 lakhs to 25 lakhs for the top Longitude (O) trim. The car will rival the likes of the Hyundai Tucson, Ford Endeavor, Toyota Fortuner and the recently launched VW Tiguan.
