2017 Jeep Compass introduced in India, launch later this-year

The Jeep Compass, one of the most talked about cars which are yet to be launched, was recently unveiled by the FCA India. Reports suggest that the car will officially be launched in June-2017.

When launched, the Compass will be the third product in Jeep’s Indian operations, after the Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler. But, unlike both the cars, the Compass will be locally assembled in Fiat-Chrysler’s plant in Ranjangaon. The car will also be exported to other markets and would be the brand’s first mass marketing offering here.

The exterior is very sharp looking, dominated by Jeep’s Iconic 7-slat grille , which is stacked vertically. The car has clean and crisp lines on the side with a thick D-pillar and squared but attractive looking wheel arches. The interiors may carry parts from other Jeeps and the 7.0-inch UConnect touchscreen infotainment system being the talking paint.

The car will have 6 airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), ESP, and hill start assist as standard across all trims. The India bound car will be available in a 1.4-litre petrol engine and a 2.0-litre diesel engine, the former churning out 158 bhp and 250 nm, the latter producing 168 bhp and 350 nm. Both the engines will be offered with 4×2 and 4×4 setup.

The Jeep Compass will take on the premium SUV segment, which has a strong hold on the market, consisting of the Hyundai Tucson, Honda CR-V, Skoda Yeti and the upcoming VW Tiguan. The Compass could also be the car which would revive Fiat’s fortunes in India.
