Jeep confirms compact SUV for India, plug-in hybrid version also planned

Jeep is on a roll with the success of its mid-size SUV, the Compass in India. The American automaker has now set its sights on the compact SUV segment, thereby confirming that it will be launched sometime in 2022. When launched, it will be exported to other countries just like the Compass.

Jeep India has confirmed the launch of sub-4m SUV that will go directly against the Maruti Vitara Brezza and the likes.

Jeep will build the vehicle on a platform which supports electrification. As per reports, Jeep will also bring a plug-in hybrid version of the compact SUV here. It will be powered by BS-VI compliant engines, though there is no official announcement on the engines yet.

We can expect Jeep to develop a petrol engine displacing in between 1200cc and 1500cc. The diesel engine will be the 1.3-litre motor seen on the Fiat 500X sold abroad. As far as the features of the car are concerned, expect Jeep to give it a host of them as they did for the Compass mid-size SUV.

No details are available at the moment of a plug-in hybrid variant, but FCA Group has confirmed the launch.

The Jeep compact SUV will be pitted against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford Ecosport and the Tata Nexon. Prices are expected to start from Rs. 7 lakh and go all the way to Rs. 12 lakh for the top trims. Jeep also revealed that they will double their sales outlets in India by the time this compact SUV gets launched in 2022.
