The Mercedes-Maybach G650 4×4² Landaulet has finally been revealed, albeit unofficially, after video footage and pictures of the “luxurious off-road limo” were leaked by AutoMailRU.
The word ‘Landaulet’ refers to a car body style similar to a limousine, but with the passenger section covered by a soft convertible top. A limited-volume, V12-powered semi-convertible version of the G-class is scheduled for debut at the Geneva Motor Show in early March.
The first Mercedes-Maybach SUV pays tribute to the existing 38-year-old G-class, which will be replaced by the all-new model later this-year. If you can recall, the last-time Maybach made a Landaulet was the 62S-based version in 2007. The Landaulet name plate belonged to some of the most luxurious models in the Mercedes-Benz portfolio in the pre-war era.
As you can see, the vehicle’s wheelbase has been stretched from 2,850 mm to 3,428 mm to provide a lot more space in the second row (as much as 600 mm more). All attention is focused on the rear passengers, where a foldable top allows them to let some sunshine in alongside there’s plenty of luxury touches.
Based on the lifted chassis of the G500 4×4², the G650 is likely to be powered by a 6.0-litre biturbo V12 engine that is said to produce 630 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque, channelled to both axles via a four-wheel drive system. Only 99 examples of the G650 4×4² Landaulet are reported to be produced for a whooping price.
