American SUV maker Jeep is planning on launching a 7-seat SUV to the Indian market soon. As per reports, development has already begun for the model with Jeep looking to expand its footprint in the Indian market. This SUV is scheduled for a launch in 2022, alongside the compact SUV which Jeep is also working on.
A 7-seat SUV was planned in Jeep’s blueprint for the Indian market. Jeep did launch the Grand Commander 7-seat SUV in China last year and something similar could expected here. With Jeep’s plans of launching electric powertrains for their models in the future, we can expect the 7-seat SUV to be a part of it as well.
There is no word regarding the engines for the model yet. Coming to the Grand Commander, it is powered by a 2.0-litre, HEMI turbocharged, four-cylinder diesel engine giving 230 BHP of power and 350 Nm of torque. It comes mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox and also has the luxury of four-wheel drive.
We can expect the 7-seat SUV to be priced around Rs.25 lakh. This model will rival the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and the Isuzu MU-X in the premium SUV segment. We can also expect the Jeep to do well in this segment, given the reputation of automakers in this segment and its nature.
