Mobile phone usage while driving restricted to navigation only.

As of 1 October 2020, cell phones will only be approved for navigation purposes. It is well known that the use of cell phones can confuse the driver when driving and can cause accidents.

The Ministry has also encouraged, through apps such as DigiLocker and m-parivahan, the use of electronic documents for driving licenses, insurance and vehicle registration. No physical copies/ hard copies would be required if relevant electronic records are presented.

Such rules come as part of the 2019 Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act , which was passed last-year in August.
