Hyundai being the second largest car manufacturer after Maruti Suzuki in India is planning to launch a compact Sedan and an SUV to compete its rivals such as Honda, Maruti Suzuki and Ford in the Indian market. With the current demand for compact Sedans and SUVs in the Indian market and also after the recent launch of the Grand i10 hatchback, Hyundai is now planning to develop a compact Sedan and an SUV based on the new platform already seen in Grand i10.
The upcoming compact Sedan based on the Grand i10 is expected to be unveiled at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, and also speculated that testing of compact sedan’s prototypes has already commenced. The compact sedan would compete the likes of Maruti Swift Dzire and Honda Amaze which has currently obtained decent sales in the Indian market. It would be built on the Hyundai’s fluidic design philosophy. The compact sedan would be powered by a 1.4-litre CRDi diesel engine already seen in the i20 and is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 5-7 lakh.
The compact SUV would be introduced by early-2015 and is expected to compete the likes of Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster, upcoming Nissan Terrano and Maruti Suzuki’s production version of the concept XA Alpha. The mini-SUV is expected to be priced around 7-8 lakh INR (ex-showroom). We at BharathAutos will keep you updated as more information on these vehicles is available.
