BA readers know that Honda is developing Brio-based Maruti Ertiga fighter. Now another latest buzz arises from Japanese car maker that company will launch a small range of cars below the Brio. Once launched, this Honda small car is expected to compete with Tata Nano and Maruti Alto small car in India. No pricing information has been released as of yet.

Several leaked computer-generated patent images of Honda’s upcoming retro-styled city car have jumped online. The images show that this city car is heavily inspired by both the N600 of the 1970s and the N Concept 4 that was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show last year. Unlike the tiny N600 it will have four doors. However, the leaked images do not show the car’s interior but it is expected to be bare-bones at best.

As per the details available, the vehicle will likely boast a 660cc VTEC four-cylinder engine good for around 64 horsepower and will be a front wheel drive city car. Although we won’t know for certain until Honda reveals the official details on the finished product. Though diminutive in size and output, Honda expects to make a major comeback in the Indian auto industry, once this small car is launched.

The ultra small car is expected to cater to only urban needs but being offered in petrol variant means it will be Honda’s another attempt to sell petrol cars when every car maker is selling diesel car like hot cakes. Based on the Honda N600 concept car, the new car small car by Honda will have smaller proportions and will be lightweight as well.

Honda is expected to release a full set of details about the retro-styled city car before the end of the year. It will make its global debut in its home country and later be exported to several neighboring countries. Looking at the A-segment demand in India at present there is no doubt, the Honda’s city car will be on the top of the list especially for developing markets like ours.

What we say? Maruti Suzuki India too is working on a new small car variant of their Alto, images surfaced on the web last month. Apart from the new Alto 800, Nissan Motor India has also announced to launch two new models, both of which will slot below the Nissan Micra, under a new brand name, Datsun.
