The Japanese automaker, Honda has unveiled a much-talked Brio MPV, christened ‘Honda Mobilio’at the on-going Indonesian Motor Show held in Jakarta. This India-bound MPV will directly compete with Maruti Ertiga, when launch in mid-2014 and will be the third Brio platform based car to be launched in India. The front-fascia borrows heavy influence from the Brio and Amaze, while the rear seems to be inspired from BMW i3.
In Indonesia, the 7-seater Honda Mobilio will take on the likes of the Suzuki Ertiga, Daihatsu Xenia, Toyota Avanza and Mazda VX-1 MPVs. The Mobilio will go on-sale in Indonesia with prices ranging between 150 – 180 million Rupiah (Rs. 8.42 – 10.10 lakh). It will be manufactured at the company’s second plant in Indonesia which will start production in January-2014.
In India, Honda will showcase the Mobilio at the 2014 Auto Expo and sales will start by the middle of the year. Here the Mobilio will be sold with petrol and turbo diesel engine options, either the 1.5-litre petrol engine or a smaller 1.2-litre petrol engine could be launched. But in Indonesia only the petrol engined model will be available as petrol engined cars are more popular there.
The Honda Mobilio has a 3-row seat configuration and is a 7-seater MPV. Honda says that the Mobilio reflects the car maker’s “Man Maximum Machine Minimum” philosophy. It is being said that the Mobilio might turn out to be a tad more spacious than the Ertiga, the current leader of compact MPV segment. The Mobilio will be very spacious on the inside, in terms of legroom and headroom.
