The Ford Figo and Figo Aspire have been in the Indian market for about 2 years now. These cars have seen many up and downs, both of this which have not been able to challenge rivals on sales. This is despite high ratings from experts and Ford’s low-cost of spares.
Ford is planning to give both of them a mid-cycle facelift, as well as look to enter the crossover market here with a Figo based crossover. The Figo and Figo Aspire will come with some minor cosmetic changes and an interior upgrade, with a touchscreen expected to be in these models. These cars will also be powered by Ford’s all-new Dragon series of petrol engines, which is expected to be more refined than the current one.
As far as the crossover is concerned, the test-mule was recently spotted with heavily camouflaged, with Roof Rails, Crossover-like cladding and new wheel arches seen in it. This car is also expected to be powered by the Dragon engine series comprising a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre engine expected to be seen in the facelifted Ecosport. Ford will launch them sometime next-year, after unveiling at the 2018 Auto Expo.
But, it remains to be seen whether the American auto major will launch the Figo-based crossover alongside the facelifted Figo or Figo Aspire. Ford will be pinning their hopes on these 3 models in order to revive its fortunes in India, which at the movement is slowly by surely being revived. These cars could also serve as a platform for Ford to launch the next-generation of cars in the future.
