Looking at the substantial demand of the sub-four metre sedan across India makes it highly irresistible for the American car manufacturer to stay away, thus, Ford today launched the Figo Aspire compact sedan in India at a starting price of Rs 4.89 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
The company has already tasted the success with its sub-4 metre SUV, the EcoSport. But the Figo Aspire is their first compact sedan offering in India. It is available with both the petrol and diesel engine options, and will compete with the likes of Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Zest and Honda Amaze. To add value over the rivals, it offers many first-in-segment features.
Engine options include a 1.5-litre TDCi diesel which is a must for India, a 1.2-litre Ti-VCT petrol and a 1.5-litre Ti-VCT petrol engine. The 1.5-liter TDCi produces 100 PS and 215 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The 1.2-litre Ti-VCT petrol delivers 88 PS and 112 Nm of torque through a 5-speed manual transmission as well. The ARAI fuel efficiency of the petrol and diesel engines is 25.83 kmpl and 18.16 kmpl respectively.
And the 1.5-litre Ti-VCT petrol engine is exclusively available coupled with the 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The engine is tuned to produce a segment-leading 112 PS and 136 Nm and is rated to deliver 17kmpl.
The Figo Aspire comes equipped with features Ford’s SYNC with app-link for improved connectivity and a multi-function display screen. Lower variants come with a mobile phone dock through which users can connect their mobile phone or navigation device to the car. Other features include leather upholstery and the Ford MyKey. It gets dual-front airbags as standard, while the top end variant comes equipped with 6 airbags.
The Figo Aspire is available in 4 variants – Ambiente, Trend, Titanium and Titanium Plus. A total of 7 colours are on offer – Ruby Red, Sparkling Gold, Oxford White, Tuxedo Black, Deep Impact Blue, Ingot Silver and Smoke Grey. It will be the first car produced at Ford’s Sanand plant and will be exported to other countries as well.
