Ferrari recently unveiled the first couple of images and details on the new Ferrari 458 Italia Spider, which will make its public debut in the next couple of weeks at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.
The Ferrari 458 Spider keeps its mid-rear engine V8 layout and the company says that it offers the “same uncompromising technological solutions, handling and performance in a refined open-top configuration.”
Our favourite part? The new 458 Spider is a hard-top convertible with a top made of aluminium, offering a weight reduction of 25 kg (4.4 pounds) in weight. The top comes down in just 14 seconds.
The Ferrari 458 Italia Spider is powered by the same 4.5L V8 producing 570-hp at 9,000 rpm with a maximum torque of 398 lb-ft at 6,000 rpm. Mated to a dual-clutch 7-speed F1 gearbox, 0-100kph come in 3.4 seconds (same as coupe) with a top speed of 318kph, compared with the 458 Italia’s 325kph.
Prices and other details will be announced closer to launch date.
