Firstlook – Chevrolet Trax compact crossover revealed

Chevrolet Trax compact crossover

A couple of months ago, we brought you leaked sketches of Chevrolet compact SUV. Now General Motors has just dropped an image of a new compact crossover christened – the Chevrolet Trax. Chevrolet may not name it the Trax in India as Force Motors has the trademark registered for that name and is on-sale at present. But rename specifically for India, it will fit in five adults comfortably and would be 4.3 meters in length.

However, we do know that the Trax compact crossover will be based on the Buick Encore and the Opel Mokka, it will go on sale in more than 140 markets. Do those 140 markets include the India?

“The Trax provides Chevrolet an entry into a growing small SUV segment and delivers the flexibility, great fuel economy and car-like handling that urban explorers around the world require,” said Mary Barra, GM senior vice president of Product Development. “After a record sales year in 2011 and a record first quarter, Chevrolet continues to meet customer needs by expanding its portfolio with strong new entries.”

We don’t have to wait very long to see the Trax in flesh as General Motors has confirmed that the Chevrolet Trax will debut at the 2012 Paris Motor Show in September. In India, if General Motors introduces it perhaps at the 2014 Auto Expo.

There is no word on the pricing till now, but this Compact Chevrolet SUV might fall into the price range of below Rs. 10 lakh. However, it would be a cakewalk for GM this time in the Indian car market; as yet to be launched Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport Crossover would be the major competition.
