The first spy photos of 2012 Chevrolet Captiva spotted by Parag Raheja in Gurgaon and posted the pictures on Car & Bike Show by NDTV on Facebook page. Judging by these spy photos, if not all, most changes appear to be concentrated on the SUV’s redesigned front end that looks heavily influenced by Chevrolet’s traditional styling cue – the signature ‘twin cockpit’ layout of the Corvette (Seen in Cruze & Beat also) we saw this at last year’s Paris motor show in September.
According to the picture, the 2012 Chevrolet Captiva will give completely restyled components. The first impression will come when we see the bumper; it is different with the older versions because GM puts upper and lower grille elements. The headlights look more futuristic because of it is installed on the new design fenders. Other changes are the indicators in the side mirrors and an updated interior.
Speaking to our friends at IndianAutosBlog.com, Director of Sales for GM India Vikas Jain said; “We have enough demand for the Captiva and we are still not able to meet the current demand. So we will not be launching the facelifted Captiva this year. GM India will completely focus on volumes of 2011. The Captiva segment as such doesn’t align with that strategy.”
The new Captiva’s chassis has been tuned to further enhance vehicle dynamics, improving cornering, roll characteristics and ride feel. In Europe the Captiva gets Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control System (TCS) and Braking Assist System (BAS) standard, as well as front-, side- and head curtain airbags, the Captiva also provides a high level of safety. The new Captiva will also feature Hill Start Assist, eliminating “roll-back” on hills, the audio system includes an auxiliary input, USB-port and Bluetooth connectivity.
Chevrolet needs to make this new generation model catchier and value for money as the SUV space in India has become more competent than ever. There are many SUVs on the offering in the price range of 18 to 25 Lakhs in which the Captiva is also placed, especially Toyota Fortuner from the top which still commands a three month waiting period. Pricing could be revised with a higher price tag as the SUV will get significant upgrades. Expected to launch in sometime in 2012.
