2013 KTM 1190 Adventure Touring Motorcycle (used as an illustration)
Mr. Alan Cathcart a popular motorcycling journalist who represents the Cycle news and the CEO of KTM Mr. Stefan Pierer stated that KTM is currently putting its efforts to build RC 125,200 and 390 faired motorcycles which would be unveiled in the EICMA show in the month of November later this year. Along with the faired motorcycles to be sold under the RC moniker, KTM also plans to come-up with dual purpose small capacity motorcycles based on the Duke platform. These bikes would be aimed at the touring bike market and are likely to sit between the Duke series of naked bikes and the fully faired RC series of models.
Nothing much is known about these bikes but it would be safe to assume that the 200cc and the 375cc models will make it to the fast developing Indian motorcycle market. These bikes are likely to be sold under KTM’s Adventure moniker and might take styling inspiration from the much bigger KTM 1190 Adventure. This launch of dual purpose versions of the Duke will encourage tourists to switch to a more convenient and practical way of touring which currently the Indian market is lagging.
This dual sports version of Duke is expected to be equipped with bigger fuel tanks, higher fairings or bubble screen to minimize wind resistance, better dual sport tyres , factory fitted panniers and more. These bikes are going to borrow the engines from the Duke series of bikes but safely expect the bike maker to re-tune the motors and extract more torque out of them before plonking them into the upcoming Adventure series of bikes. The upcoming dual purpose versions of the Duke 125, 200 and 390 are likely to be priced Rs 10,000 – 15,000, more than their Duke counterparts and will be developed at the Bajaj’s facility at Chakan for the entire world.
