Nissan’s low-cost car brand, Datsun finally re-entered in auto world with its highly awaited hatchback Datsun GO in Indian car market with starting price of Rs. 3.12 lakh (ex-showroom price in New Delhi). A total of 3 variants were launched the base variant ‘D’ at Rs. 3,12,270, while the mid-level variant ‘A’ at Rs. 3,46,482 and the top-spec variant ‘T’ costs Rs. 3,69,999 (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).
The variants are named after the first three letters of the automakers name DAT, which stands for Dream Access and Trust. The base model of Datsun GO will receive black bumpers as against body colored bumpers, manually operated windows and will be devoid of both power steering and air conditioning. The mid-level Datsun GO receives air conditioning along with two speaker audio system with AUX-IN.
The top-end GO comes with all above features, and additionally gets power windows in the front, electric power steering, colored bumpers, wheel covers and folding rear seats. This model is also fitted with trip computer with digital tachometer, tripmeter, distance to empty indicator and fuel efficiency display. Being an affordable hatchback means that the Maruti Suzuki Alto and Hyundai Eon will see some tough competition with the Datsun GO.
The Datsun GO is powered by a 3-cylinder 1.2-litre petrol mill borrowed from the Nissan Micra that produces a max power of 68 PS @ 5000 RPM and maximum torque of 104 Nm @ 4000 RPM and is mated with a 5-speed manual gearbox transmission to give a top speed of over 160 kmph and takes only 13.3 seconds to reach 0-100kmph. It has the best power to weight ratio of any other car in its segment. It also boasts of the largest engine in its class. The car also comes with an engine immobiliser for added security.
The GO hatch is available in a total of 4 colours – White, Silver, Sky (Blue) & Ruby (Red). It will be retailed through a fully-branded environment within Nissan’s 125 dealerships and the company will also take care of servicing Datsun cars from its workshops. The GO comes with complimentary road-side assistance and an 2-year unlimited km warranty.
